The first week of February kicked off a week-long celebration of Ella’s 6th birthday. Months ago, Ella decided she wanted to have an American Indian Birthday. This is no short order as I soon found out there are not many “props” for an Indian Party. Thanks to Oriental Trading catalog, we found a few crafts, we borrowed some wooden bowls are started to think about what Indians ate.
Superbowl Sunday was our family party. We also had ribs, corn chowder, dried fruit, nuts and corn chips. We sorta ate like Indians, right? My favorite food was the beautiful Indian princess cake :)
On Ella’s “real” birthday, the 12th, we went to the Science Center with our cousins during the day. For dinner we hit Red Robin with cousins Drew and Audrey, Uncle Tim, Aunt Laura, Maw-maw and Papa. Ella had spaghetti twice in one day so she was in six-year old heaven. We topped it all off with a Maggie-Moo ice cream – Ella’s favorite is the tongue-staining combo of blue cotton-candy ice cream and snowcaps. We had a ball except dad who started feeling a little crumby. Stomach flu – yuk!
On Valentine’s Day we had Ella’s very first friend-party. We had about 12 girls and luckily a lot of help from my mom and 3 older cousins. Face painting, headdress making, shawl making, purse making and dream-catcher making kept the girls very busy. At each station they earned some coins to spend at the Trading Post on candies. Then, they iced a cupcake like an Indian . I was exhausted at day’s end! It was fun for sure.

Certainly I have a whole new appreciation for birthday party organization and the resulting present storage challenge.
Since it was an all-girl party, Dad took Theo to get a haircut. Theo is looking quite dapper. He is the best 2 yr old getting a haircut. Not that I am biased or anything, but he seriously sits completely still!
In the storm of birthdaying, we almost forgot about Valentine’s Day til later that night!
Looking forward to a quieter week here on the homefront. We are now getting into Chinese New Year mindset. I am frantically cleaning out the extra junk in the house as is the CNY tradition- watch out Goodwill, here I come. We are looking forward to an up-coming party to kick off the Year of the Tiger this weekend. More soon. . .
