Ella and I just spent 4 wonderful days in Los Angeles visiting cousins Jodi and Chandler! We visited Disneyland on friday, where Ella bought Theo a piglet doll. Poor Theo, he will not be able to escape pink in this house!
On Saturday we (Ella, BLaur and me) headed to Chinatown in LA with seasoned escorts -Chandler and Jodi - for an interesting celebration. Many Asian countries were represented in this parade honoring the Chinese Lunar New Year 2008- the year of the rat. Ella loved seeing all of the princesses from various countries in Asia throughout the parade. As tradition goes, confetti exploded and firecrackers popped throughout the streets to scare bad luck away.
We were sure to feed the lion dancers plenty of lai-see in hopes of bringing us good luck for the coming year (especially for the coming of Theo and baby Ahrens).
Note: On Chinese New Year’s Day, children are given red envelopes called Lai-see, good luck money wrapped in little red envelopes. Enzo and Ella are pictured feeding the lion.
We are keeping our fingers crossed that the Year of the Rat will bring good luck to many of our friends and family this year. We will also be saying our prayers :)
